Bio & Introduction

Hello and thanks for visiting my ePortfolio!

My name is Matt Brewer. I am 32 years old, happily married to my wife Amber, and have 2 children; Zane, age 5 and Zoe age 7. I am a proud occupational therapy masters student here at Cox College. I've always had the passion of helping others and being kind to one another. I discovered occupational therapy a couple years ago and have been in awe and amazement with the profession ever since. It's a dynamic, ever-changing field, that allows you to have an incredible impact on one's quality of life.

Pre-OT School

Whatever did I do before OT school? Well, OT is my second career. In a prior life I was a computer programmer and computer service tech for years. My day involved staring at a black box for 10 hours a day with the occasional phone call from a not-so-happy customer telling me how bad a job I was doing. The business world can be very cut-throat and although I enjoyed the computer work I did, I didn't enjoy working for the companies. The world needs more Mother Theresa's and less people concerned with the almighty dollar.

My hope is to be the best occupational therapist I can be. To be compassionate, respectful, empathetic OT I can be. I only wish I found this field sooner!

My Interested related to OT and Assistive Technology

Assistive technology (AT) is any item, piece of equipment, software program, or product system that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of persons with disabilities. Assistive technology and Occupational Therapy are so incredibly vast that there are countless ways to help an individual improve their capabilities. Assistive technology can be low-tech or high-tech. The important thing to remember is it's not the tech, necessarily, that helps individuals improve function but the individuals desire and motivation!

Great picture of you and the kids!! I love that you have been so inspired to create meaningful technology. It's nice to see that you are able to benefit from your past experiences and combine programming with OT!!
